About the project
The project of a 110 m² wooden house, designed by AMUNT Architects, is idyllically situated on a southwest-facing slope with wide views over the surrounding village.
The architects aimed to integrate the building harmoniously into the natural topography, to emphasize the steep slopes as a design feature, and to make optimal use of the usable area.
Generous windows open the house up to the landscape and create a flowing connection between interior and exterior. The green built-in furniture as well as the yellow window frames and railings pick up the colours of the maple blossoms and establish a lively relationship with nature. A petrol-coloured stair core adds a modern, contrasting accent.
Selected materials with high aesthetic and functional quality were used — including MDF Hydro X from Sonae Arauco. The moisture-resistant panel impresses with its distinctive surface and blends harmoniously into the house’s natural colour scheme.
“All materials used were chosen with great care and with particular attention to regional origin, durability and the ability to develop a distinctive patina over time. The nuanced tone and texture of MDF Hydro X reminds us of traditional green loden and fits harmoniously with the atmosphere of the wooden floors — ideal for a house in the rural Black Forest. In the kitchen and bathroom, the material also fully demonstrates its moisture resistance and proves its functional strength there.”

Although MDF Hydro X was not originally intended as a decorative panel, the project demonstrates its design potential. The UV coating protects and refines the surface. For a uniform appearance, Sonae Arauco recommends using panels from the same production batch.
