All wood based panels sold in Germany must meet the “ordinance on bans and restrictions on the marketing of hazardous substances, preparations and products pursuant to the Chemicals Act”, known as the ChemikalienVerbotsverordnung, says the German Regulator.
The new amendment introduces a change in the test method to be used for formaldehyde measurement, as the emission chamber method EN16516 will become the new reference test method. Despite the limit stays at the current value of 0.1 ppm due to the test conditions settled, a stricter requirement will be in place.
EN 717-1 is the emission method defined by the European Standards and can still be used, but the results must be modified by a factor of 2, meaning that with EN 717-1 the test result must be below 0.05ppm in order to conform.
Sonae Arauco is committed to comply with this new regulation and will support its customers in the transitional phase. E05 compliant products will be available starting December 1st 2019.
