Carbon Footprint Calculator by Sonae Arauco: a tool for more responsible decisions
Sonae Arauco has just launched the Carbon Footprint Calculator, reinforcing its transparency strategy and its commitment to sustainability. This tool allows users to estimate, simply and accurately, the CO₂ impact associated with the company’s products — from production to transport.
What it is and how it works?
The calculator was developed to provide reliable values for the carbon footprint (CO₂e) of Sonae Arauco’s different products. The process is simple:
-
Select the product: PB, Decorative Panel PB, Decorative Panel MDF, MDF, OSB or AGEPAN® Fibreboard.
-
Enter the quantity (m², mm, among other units).
-
Input the transport distance (from Sonae Arauco’s industrial unit to the delivery location).
With this data, the tool calculates the total carbon footprint, expressed in kg CO₂e.
Total transparency
One of the key strengths of this calculator is the clear distinction between two impact phases:
-
Production Stage Footprint: emissions associated with the manufacturing of the product.
-
Transport Stage Footprint: emissions generated during the route from Sonae Arauco to the customer’s delivery point.
This approach gives users a complete view of the environmental impact of their project, from origin to delivery.
Why this tool?
The calculator comes at a time when the industry is seeking more responsible solutions and more transparent information. By providing clear data, Sonae Arauco supports customers, architects, manufacturers and specifiers in integrating environmental criteria into their choices.
Sustainability as a strategic pillar
This tool is aligned with the company’s environmental commitments, namely:
-
Carbon neutrality by 2040 (Scope 1 and 2).
-
Halving emissions by 2030.
-
Full alignment with the Paris Climate Agreement.
And wood -a core resource in Sonae Arauco’s business - remains a crucial ally due to its capacity to capture and store CO₂.
Benefits for users
With this calculator, customers and partners can:
-
Assess the environmental impact of materials before making decisions.
-
Compare different product and transport solutions within the same project.
-
Meet increasing environmental requirements in tenders, certifications and sustainability reports.
