About the project
The renovation of the reception area of the pediatric wing at Hospital Dona Estefânia, in Lisbon (Portugal), aimed to create a more human, comfortable and emotionally positive environment for children and families.
Interior designer Ana Antunes, who led the project, explains that the intention was clear from the outset: “It was a room with a cold atmosphere and I wanted to transform it. I wanted to make it more welcoming, more comfortable and to create a dynamic effect around it, with light.”
Visual comfort, light and movement
The unicolours Mint (L4085) and Marshmallow (L5218) were applied to the walls in a wave‑like design, introducing movement and softness while breaking the usual rigidity of hospital environments. These tones reinforce a sense of calm and safety, creating a light atmosphere well suited to a pediatric context.
Beyond visual impact, functionality was a key factor. As Ana Antunes highlights, “they are panels that are easy to maintain and to clean”. This combination of aesthetics, durability and ease of maintenance makes it possible to create a more welcoming and emotionally positive space, without compromising the essential functionality required in a healthcare environment.
